Halkidiki's History:
According to the
mythology, Halkidiki was given one of the hardest battles,
the battle of Giants. The place of conduct was the Flegreo
Field, where today it can be found on the plain of Flegras,
in Pallini.
The
Mount Athos: An orthodox spiritual center since
1054 and has an autonomous status since the Byzance.
The area is forbidden to children and women and to even
female animals.
Did
You Know?... The Mount Athos in Halkidiki is
today inhabited by 1400 monks and there are 20 monasteries.
Petralona
Cave: It was found in 1959 by the inhabitant
of Petralona, Mr. Philippos Hatzaridis and it became
well known all over the world in 1960, when the skull
of Arhanthropos was found by another inhabitant of Petralona,
Mr. Christos Sarrigiannidis.
Did

of Alexander the Great.
Kassandra:
The first peninsula of Halkidiki and the most popular
area because is nearest to Thessaloniki. There is no
mountain in Kassandra but there are a lot of beaches
with hotels, beach bars and generaly a cosmopolitan
ambience.
Sithonia:
Have the chance to admire endless magical landscapes,
golden beaches, secluded beaches, covered in green valleys
and forests, fish villages, but also the magnificent
architectual structure of houses and churches.
History:
Amongst the many worth seeing places in Sithonia is
the ancient city, the castle and the church of Agios
Athanasios in Toroni, the windmills in Sikia and the
16th century church in Nikit The mountainous peninsula
projects south from the mainland of Thessaloniki into
the Aegean Sea. It terminates in three steep-sided,
finger - like promontories - Kassandra, Sithonia, and
Mount Athos (Greek: Agion Oros, "Holy Mountain"),
the location of several well - known monasteries.
Beaches:
Hanioti Beach is the livliest of the main beaches, and
it offers a wider selection of
watersports and nightlife (there’s even a go-kart
track).

going all-round sort of resort.
Kassandra:
The easiest peninsula to get to and around, and has
suffered package resort development overload as a consequence.
If you're a package person then Kassandra may suit you,
though it's more like a Phuket Patong than a Greece
paradise.
Thessaloniki:
With its quiet roads winding past glimpses of tiny,
perfect turquoise bays, endless pine trees and clusters
of beehives.
